Ocean City is a bustling active island in the summer and a quiet serene location the other three seasons of the year. Summers in Ocean City has a lot to offer.
Biking feet from the ocean on the wooden boardwalk is a morning ritual for many locals and visitors alike. Sun worshippers can spend their days basking in the sun on Ocean Citys extensive beaches. Feel like taking a dip...go right ahead there are lifegaurds on duty every block or so. If you forget your beach umbrella or boogie board have no fear for a nominal fee you can rent them until 4 pm each day. Ocean City like most of the other Jersey beaches requires a beach tag. (Psst..here's a tip for those who dont want to spend the money on a beach tag...if you see a tag monitor walking down the beach head into the water, they only check those on the beach not in the water)
For those honest folks like myself you can purchase beach tags at the visitors bureau on the ninths street bridge, at the beautiful and historic Ocean City Music Pier at 8th and the boardwalk, and daily from the beach tag stands along the boardwalk. Season tags run about 15 dollars, weekly and daily tags are less but aren't as economical if you plan on returning after your week is up. Not a beach person thats ok too.
Have fun shopping at the many stores along the boardwalk. There are bookstores, novelty shops, gift shops, shirt shops, a movie theater, and many many food shops. You have to try Steel's Fudge its the best on the boardwalk in my Opinion.
If you like rides hit either Playland at 10th and the boardwalk, they have a carosel, roller coaster, and countless other rides that the younger crowd will enjoy. If you have pre-teen or teenagers try Wonderland Pier at 6th and the Boardwalk. They have rides for they tiny tots but Wonderland has rides geared for the older children and adults. Check out the Giant Ferris Wheel where you can catch a view of the whole island from the top.
Ocean City is a dry town which means they serve no alcohol in town. Its considered a family resort but for those who must have alcohol have no fear. Take a 5 minute car ride over the 9th street bridge and hit the Circle Liquor store.
Thursdays is (Family day) in Ocean City they have special events throughout the day such as pony rides, clowns, bands on the boardwalk and parades. Special Events within the City include such things as Craft shows weekly at the Music Pier, Nightly Concerts in the air conditioned concert hall (Music Pier), Night in Venice which takes place the third Saturday in July is a lighted boat parade in the bay which features over a hundred boats. If you plan on going to Night in Venice book early the city will fill up fast. Ocean City is a great place to spend time. I go back every year. Everyone is welcomed! Have fun, relax, and enjoy your trip.
